Practical assessment over written exams. Competency here is judged hands-on: can the student actually wire a switchboard or complete a haircut to standard. A system built entirely around written test scores has no good place to record that.

Shorter, fixed-duration programs. Many trade courses run for a set number of weeks rather than a full academic year, and students often move straight into work after finishing, so completion tracking matters more than long-term academic progression.

Certificate-driven outcomes. For a lot of students, the entire point of enrolling is the completion certificate they can show an employer. Getting that right, with the correct trade name and completion date, matters more here than it does almost anywhere else in education.
